Piensa en el momento en que decidiste que ibas a empezar a aprender una nueva lengua. Probablemente estabas emocionado pensando en los lugares a los que ir\u00edas y la gente que conocer\u00edas. Quiz\u00e1 te descargaste una aplicaci\u00f3n que te ense\u00f1a poco a poco. Entonces, te das cuenta. Aunque parece que has aprendido mucho, parece que queda mucho m\u00e1s. Puede parecer imposible. Por eso tienes que fijarte objetivos realistas. Si divides el aprendizaje de idiomas en peque\u00f1os trozos manejables, te parecer\u00e1 mucho menos abrumador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A good rule is that your goals should be observable and measurable. For example, if your goal is \u201cI want to be able to communicate with my coworkers\u201d, it isn\u2019t something you can necessarily observe or measure. What are you communicating about? What vocabulary do you need to do that? What does \u201cable to\u201d look like? Therefore, it makes sense it you set smaller goals. It\u2019ll keep you from feeling frustrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, in the same scenario, you could say, \u201cI want to be able to communicate with my coworkers. First, I can learn greetings. Then, I can ask where things are. Next, I can\u2026\u201d By breaking up \u201ccommunicate with my coworkers\u201d into its smaller pieces, you can feel proud of yourself for accomplishing that small goal, and feel energized to move on to the next one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En cuanto empieces a sentirte abrumado, t\u00f3mate un momento y respira<\/a>. First, you want to build your confidence, because if you feel like you aren\u2019t capable, you aren\u2019t going to be trying your best. Everything will start to feel impossible. Write down things you know how to do in this language already, or moments where you communicated with someone that you\u2019re proud of. Once you\u2019ve reminded yourself of your accomplishments, it\u2019ll feel easier to set goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
