Not too far from Valencia is Barcelona, and they\u2019re having a festival to celebrate La Merc\u00e8, the patron saint of Barcelona. The party just started today, September 23!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 celebrarlo?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hay algunas cosas que celebrar durante esta fiesta, que tiene lugar del 23 al 26 de septiembre. En primer lugar, honra a Mare de Deu de la Merc\u00e8<\/a> (Madre de Dios de la Misericordia), patrona de Barcelona. La festividad real de esta santa es el 24 de septiembre, pero la fiesta dura varios d\u00edas. En realidad, es una fiesta oficial desde 1871, pero en 1902 se introdujeron elementos m\u00e1s extravagantes, como figuras gigantes de cart\u00f3n piedra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los 600 actos repartidos por plazas y calles tambi\u00e9n celebran el final del verano. El tiempo est\u00e1 a punto de refrescar y los estudiantes vuelven a la escuela, as\u00ed que este acontecimiento despide el verano por todo lo alto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Events happening this year at La Merc\u00e8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some of the main venues that will be packed with people and fun are Castell de Montju\u00efc, Former Estrella Damm Factory, La Pla\u00e7a de Sant Jaume, and many more. You\u2019ll find tons of concerts, dance performances and exhibitions of giants. If you\u2019re interested in traditional exhibitions, you\u2019ll want to check out the \u201cSeguici Popular\u201d, showing the history of Catalonia dating back to the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Este domingo se celebra el Correfoc, otro emocionante acontecimiento que tiene lugar justo cuando se pone el sol. Se lanzan bengalas y fuegos artificiales a la multitud, iluminando el cielo. Hay uno para ni\u00f1os que es m\u00e1s tranquilo, y otro para adultos m\u00e1s tarde que es mucho m\u00e1s salvaje. Ten cuidado con los individuos disfrazados de demonios que corren por las calles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everywhere you turn, you\u2019ll find music and dancing. Merc\u00e8 Dansa spotlights traditional Spanish dancing from all around the country. If you\u2019ve traveled around Spain or have seen Spanish videos, you\u2019ll probably recognize some of their dances! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
