Qu'est-ce que tu fais ? Maîtrise le présent progressif

Que fais-tu ? tout de suite? Tu lis des articles sur l'espagnol ? Est-ce que tu penses à étudier à l'étranger? There are different ways that we can describe the grammatical present, and one of those ways is the present progressive. In English, it’s when we use “-ing”. Qu'est-ce que le présent progressif ?

Simply put, the present progressive is how to describe what someone is doing at the moment of speaking. This is a little different than in English where I could say, “I’m working on a project” but I’m not actually working on it at that exact moment. In Spanish, you would use this tense for what you’re doing tout de suite. In addition, you could use it for anything someone does habitually. Let’s take a look at some examples:

Estoy escribiendo un artículo. I’m writing an article.

Él siempre está trabajando mucho. He’s always working a lot.

Dans le premier exemple, tu peux voir qu'il décrit ce que quelqu'un fait en ce moment même. Dans le second, tu peux voir ce que quelqu'un fait habituellement.

Former des phrases

As-tu remarqué des régularités dans les deux phrases ci-dessus ? Pour former le présent progressif, tu as besoin de deux choses : une forme de être and a participle. Let’s look at the verb être d'abord. Voici ses 6 formes, au cas où tu aurais besoin d'un rafraîchissement :

• yo estoy
• tú estás
• él / ella / usted está
• nosotros estamos
• vosotros estáis
• ellos / ellas / ustedes están

Ensuite, nous avons besoin d'un participe présentqui est un verbe qui se termine par -ando ou -iendo. In order to form these verbs, you take off the ending and add –ando pour les verbes en -ar et -iendo pour les verbes en -er et -ir. Par exemple, le participe présent de parler est hablando. Comer devient comiendo et vivre devient vivre.

Now, let’s put them together! Use a form of êtreLe verbe est un verbe à double sens, puis un participe présent d'un verbe. Regarde les exemples ci-dessous :

• Estoy haciendo la tarea. I’m doing homework.
• Estás cocinando en la cocina. You’re cooking in the kitchen.
• Ella está jugando. Elle joue.
• Estamos caminando en el parque. Nous nous promenons dans le parc.
• Estáis bebiendo café. You’re all drinking coffee.
• Ellos están abriendo las ventanas. Ils ouvrent les fenêtres.
