While studying abroad, it\u2019s important to explore la ville<\/a> you\u2019re living in. Experience daily life in Spanish every chance you get! In addition, it\u2019s also important to explore outside of your city so you can see the rich diversity that Spain has to offer. Not too far from Valencia is Barcelona, and they\u2019re having a festival to celebrate La Merc\u00e8, the patron saint of Barcelona. The party just started today, September 23!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pourquoi faire la f\u00eate ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Il y a plusieurs choses \u00e0 c\u00e9l\u00e9brer pendant ce festival, qui a lieu du 23 au 26 septembre. Tout d'abord, il honore Mare de Deu de la Merc\u00e8<\/a> (M\u00e8re de Dieu de la Mis\u00e9ricorde), la sainte patronne de Barcelone. La f\u00eate proprement dite de ce saint est le 24 septembre, mais la f\u00eate se prolonge pendant plusieurs jours. Il s'agit en fait d'une f\u00eate officielle depuis 1871, mais des \u00e9l\u00e9ments plus extravagants, comme des personnages g\u00e9ants en papier m\u00e2ch\u00e9, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 introduits en 1902.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les 600 \u00e9v\u00e9nements parsem\u00e9s sur les places et dans les rues c\u00e9l\u00e8brent \u00e9galement la fin de l'\u00e9t\u00e9. Le temps est sur le point de se rafra\u00eechir et les \u00e9tudiants reprennent le chemin de l'\u00e9cole, c'est pourquoi cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement marque vraiment la fin de l'\u00e9t\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Events happening this year at La Merc\u00e8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some of the main venues that will be packed with people and fun are Castell de Montju\u00efc, Former Estrella Damm Factory, La Pla\u00e7a de Sant Jaume, and many more. You\u2019ll find tons of concerts, dance performances and exhibitions of giants. If you\u2019re interested in traditional exhibitions, you\u2019ll want to check out the \u201cSeguici Popular\u201d, showing the history of Catalonia dating back to the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce dimanche, il y a Correfoc, un autre \u00e9v\u00e9nement passionnant qui a lieu juste au moment o\u00f9 le soleil se couche. Des cierges magiques et des feux d'artifice sont lanc\u00e9s dans la foule et illuminent le ciel. Il y en a un pour les enfants, qui est plus calme, et un autre pour les adultes, plus tard, qui est beaucoup plus sauvage. Fais attention aux individus d\u00e9guis\u00e9s en d\u00e9mons qui courent dans les rues !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everywhere you turn, you\u2019ll find music and dancing. Merc\u00e8 Dansa spotlights traditional Spanish dancing from all around the country. If you\u2019ve traveled around Spain or have seen Spanish videos, you\u2019ll probably recognize some of their dances! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
