    Focus your first 20 or 30 minutes on learning a new topic, whatever that may be. This could be made up of tons of different ways to learn new material. <\/strong>Maybe you watch an instructional video, or you could read part of an online lesson. If you\u2019re using a textbook, it might be reading a new chapter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Recall<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Now it\u2019s time to see how much you retained. Spend 10-15 minutes trying to recall what you just learned without looking at any notes. You could try to jot down everything you remember from the lesson, or if you\u2019re studying with a buddy, you could practice explaining what you just learned to them. Either way, you\u2019re seeing what you retained, what you didn\u2019t, and what you struggle to explain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This fifth step actually takes place later on. A day or two later, you\u2019ll want to revisit the topic you learned. Best practice in the science of education suggests reviewing your notes within 24 hours to help lock in your learning in your memory. This is why teachers have always said learning spaced out over time is the best way to go. While cramming the day before a test may help you pass, it won\u2019t help you remember in the long term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
