You were so excited to practice Spanish with a native speaker, and you were so confident in yourself! Then, the other person started talking, and you had no idea what words came out of their mouth. You feel frustrated, and a little embarrassed. In this article, we\u2019ll help you answer the question, \u201cWhat do I do if I don\u2019t understand?\u201d so you can keep the conversation going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">R\u00e9ponses en un mot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially if the other person doesn\u2019t speak English and can\u2019t explain it to you, you\u2019ll want to know how to ask someone to repeat what they just said. <em>\u00bfC\u00f3mo?<\/em> est une expression courante similaire \u00e0 <em>Hein ? <\/em>in English. It\u2019s short, sweet and to the point to show that you don\u2019t understand what they just said. It\u2019s a polite way to say <em>Plus lentement, s'il te pla\u00eet<\/em>. Tu pourrais aussi dire <em>M\u00e1s lento<\/em> au lieu de <em>M\u00e1s despacio <\/em>si <em>lento <\/em>is easier to remember since it\u2019s shorter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phrases pour demander une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a beginner, a good phrase to know is <em>R\u00e9p\u00e8te, s'il te pla\u00eet <\/em>if it\u2019s someone you\u2019re familiar with. If you want to show a little more respect, or you\u2019re in a culture that would use <em>usted <\/em>dans cette situation, opte pour <em>R\u00e9p\u00e8te, s'il te pla\u00eet<\/em>. Most likely, they\u2019ll either say it slower, or try a new way of phrasing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chaque conversation est une exp\u00e9rience d'apprentissage.
