There is nothing more fun than partaking in a restaurant experience. That said, when it comes to speaking Spanish, sometimes getting through the basic process of ordering can be a little intimidating. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is why we have assembled a quick guide with all the basic phrases you need to know to have a stress-free meal in a Spanish-speaking country. <\/span><\/p>\n

Here are the five basic words and phrases you need to know to order food in Spanish like a pro.<\/span><\/p>\n

Checking Out the Menu<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Want to get a glimpse of the menu before you decide to sit? Say \u201c\u00a1Hola! Me gustar\u00eda ver el men\u00fa por favor.\u201d This means, \u201cHello! I\u2019d look to see the menu, please.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Anybody in a pinch should get by with just \u201c<\/span>El menu, por favor,<\/span><\/i>\u201d as well. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ready to Order?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When the server asks you if you are ready to order, you can say \u201c<\/span>S\u00ed, ya decid\u00ed lo que voy a pedir<\/span><\/i>\u201d if you are ready to go. This translates to \u201cYes, I\u2019m ready to order.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

So what if you are not ready yet? \u201c<\/span>Todav\u00eda no he decidido lo que quiero ordenar<\/span><\/i>\u201d means \u201cI haven\u2019t decided what I\u2019m going to order yet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Telling the Server What You Would Like to Eat<\/strong> <\/span><\/h2>\n

So how do you politely tell the server what you would like to eat without having to gesture and point like a monkey? \u201c<\/span>A m\u00ed me da una orden de _______, por favor.<\/span><\/i>\u201d means \u201cI will take an order of _______, please.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

If you panic and forget, no stress. It will get easier with time. In the meantime, just say, \u201c<\/span>__________, por favor<\/span><\/i>\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

Taking It to Go<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Whether you are looking for a quick <\/span>taco<\/span><\/a> on the fly or have some leftovers after a delicious <\/span>Spanish feast<\/span><\/a>, it\u2019s important that you know how to ask for food-to-go.<\/span><\/p>\n

The polite way to ask to get food wrapped in Spanish is to say \u201c<\/span>\u00bfme podr\u00eda poner esto para llevar, por favor?<\/span><\/i>\u201d. This translates to \u201cCould I get this to go, please?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For anybody who just wants to start with the basics, \u201c<\/span>Para llevar, por favor<\/span><\/i>\u201d should get the point across just fine as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asking for the Bill<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This may be the least enjoyable part of the meal, but it\u2019s still something you need to know to make sure your Spanish restaurant experience goes as smoothly as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Try saying, \u201c<\/span>Disculpe, ya estamos listos para la cuenta, por favor.<\/span><\/i>\u201d This literally translates to, \u201cExcuse me, we are ready for the cheque, please.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
