CONVERSA START WITH A WARM SPANISH INTRODUCTION

Starting with a Warm Spanish Introduction

If you have decided to learn Spanish and don’t know where to start, how about introducing yourself? A successful introduction may encourage you to keep speaking Spanish and it doesn’t get any easier than learning introductions. Let’s learn how to say the basics!

Introducing Yourself in Spanish

When it comes to introductions, there really aren’t any tricks, it’s pretty straightforward in any language. That said, it’s easy to make mistakes and use phrases that are literally translated from your native tongue… and these may not sound very natural. So if you wanna learn the commonly-used phrases in Spanish, just keep scrolling!

Basic Introductions

Hola, me llamo Delia – Hi, my name is Delia.

Hola, soy Delia – Hi, I’m Delia.

Encantada (or encantado)  Nice to meet you.

Easy, right? How about we learn how to say a few more things? If you’re introducing yourself, we assume you’re going to need a little small talk. But don’t worry, just a little. Don’t panic if you don’t know some of these words, when you meet someone for the first time, you just need to get the conversation going, so let go and don’t be afraid to make mistakes!

Soy de Estados Unidos – I’m from the US.

Vivo en Madrid – I live in Madrid.

Tengo 26 años – I’m 26 years old.

Me gusta viajar – I enjoy travelling.

Asking the Questions

And now it’s your turn to ask the questions, we don’t want to risk coming off as self-centred!

¿Cómo te llamas? – What’s your name?

¿De dónde eres? – Where are you from?

¿Dónde vives? – Where do you live?

¿Cuántos años tienes? – How old are you?

And you know, if you get stuck, just go with the good old “Lo siento, no hablo (bien) Español” and all will be good with the world! Don’t let anything get in the way of your journey to learn Spanish!

Don’t forget to practice what you learned!
